What a world!
Talking to some Chinese students here, I realized how small
and narrow my world is.
One is from Singapore, a chemistry major sophore, who
is here for a yale regular course---medical jurisprudence. It is not her major
but she is just interested in it , so she registered and here she is now. The
first time I know even during the as long as four-month summer vaction, there
are courses for students home and abroad to choose.
One is a Hongkong University law junior, who’s here
for law school. She proposed and her father paid for the trip, for both of them
consider it a great opportunity to get some idea of American law teaching system.
One is sophore student from a not so good university
in Beijing, majoring in communication engineering. After paying a large fortune
to an intermediary, he is here now for his entensive English classes, and he is
planing to further his studies in the States, though he seems a beginner in
English. He is trying to figure out more, for he thinks it’s tough for his
father to make such a large sum even by owning a coal mine.
One is a newly graduated college student from a
Shanghai drama school. She takes it as her graduation trip, while trying to
find out chance to pursue her graduate studies here in America.
